NFPA 1035: Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist and Youth Firesetter Program Manager Professional Qualifications identifies the minimum job performance requirements (JPRs) for those individuals who interact with the general public for the purpose of:

1. Reducing the numbers and severity of fires in the community
2. Reducing the numbers and severity of fire-related injuries in the community

Critical Components of a Job Performance Requirement (JPR):

1. Task to be performed
2. Tools, equipment, or materials that are to be provided to complete the task
3. Evaluation and performance outcomes

This course covers the general requisite knowledge and skills for an individual to meet the JPRs of an entry-level position in the field of Fire and Life Safety Education.

General Requisite Knowledge for:

Fire behavior; organizational structure, function, and operation; human behavior during fire; injury/causes and prevention; community risk reduction; injury prevention strategies; learning theory and educational methodology; standardized fire and life safety messages; natural fire hazards; current homeland security topics; escape planning; hazard identification and correction; current fire protection systems and devices; emergency fire reporting; firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE); liability issues; public relations; high-risk audiences and behaviors; accessibility; people-first language; social and cultural trends; community resources; and personal image and professionalism.

General Requisite Skills for:

Using verbal and written communication skills; time management; and multi-tasking.

Accredited Certification Level:

This course meets the Fire and Life Safety Educator I (FLSE I) Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) as defined in Sections 4.1 through 4.5 of NFPA 1035.

You are required to take your Champions Fire College Certificate of Course Completion and complete a certification exam and skills evaluation as provided by Champions Fire College in accordance with the requirements of your province or state.
