NFPA 1035: Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist and Youth Firesetter Program Manager Professional Qualifications identifies the minimum job performance requirements (JPRs) for those individuals who interact with the general public for the purpose of:
- Reducing the numbers and severity of fires in the community
- Reducing the numbers and severity of fire-related injuries in the community
Critical Components of a Job Performance Requirement (JPR):
- Task to be performed
- Tools, equipment, or materials that are to be provided to complete the task
- Evaluation and performance outcomes

This course covers the general requisite knowledge and skills for an incumbent Fire and Life Safety Educator to meet the JPRs for a more advanced position in the field of Fire and Life Safety Education, e.g., supervising other FLSEs, developing teaching materials for other FLSEs to deliver, etc. The course material is delivered 100% online and topics covered include:
General Requisite Knowledge for:
The planning process; local political process; leadership; applied learning theory; statistical analysis methods; resource identification and acquisition; networking, partnership, and coalition strategies; evaluation techniques; budget preparation and management; and needs assessment.
General Requisite Skills for:
Analyzing community risk; designing and managing programs; integrating prevention interventions to address community risk; creating and leading a community risk reduction program; and working in collaboration with internal and external organizational members.
Prerequisite:
Completion of Fire and Life Safety Educator I
Accredited Certification Level:
This course meets the Fire and Life Safety Educator II (FLSE II) Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) as defined in Sections 5.1 through 5.5 of NFPA 1035.
Successful course completion qualifies student to take Fire and Life Safety Educator Level II certification exam. You are required to take your Champions Fire College Certificate of Course Completion and complete a certification exam and skills evaluation as provided by Champions Fire College in accordance with the requirements of your province or state.
